Black is beauty. Still it is contradicting when it comes to the colour of skin. Animals are no exception in this, especially black cats. From being associated to witchcraft to getting termed as inauspicious, his tiny creatures have faced it all. here we bring you some spine chilling, some cool and fun facts about black cats.
1.Beauty Is Skin Deep.
With its extremely jet black fur coat, a black cat lies nowhere behind when it comes to beauty. The typical black colour of their fur is due to presence of a protein named melanin. This extreme melanism gives them a jet black look.
2.The Sunny Effect
their skin tends to change colour from black to reddish dark brown. Now wait, before you associate this with some witchy thing, the reason behind this colour change is simple. Over exposure under the sun causes their skin to rust. And the good news is, when the level of melanin returns to normal, so does its beautiful black colour.
3.Better At Fighting Disease.
The immune system of a black cat is better compared to any other cat breed. They have a high resistance towards diseases and illness. Thus, they are spared from disease like Feline HIV.
4.Eyes Never Hide.
Black cats have yellowish iris compared to its contemporaries. The very reason behind this is high levels of melanin deposits in its body, which results in their crisis, making it golden /yellow.
5. Beware Cats! Its Halloween.
Since black cats are many a times associated with witchcraft, this very thing makes them fall into danger. During the time of Halloween, the return of the dead, these creatures are sacrificed to ward off evils. Thus, many families who pet them keep them locked inside their house to prevent their life.

Though one can spot cats with black on their fur, having a jet black fur is a gene thing. Not can all cats have a jet black coat. In order to get this dominant pattern, two dominant black gene have to be present to overpower the tabby. both parents of the cat need to have the black colour gene in order to give it the colour.

Some cats may appear black, but in actual their coats are many colours. This happens because of a recessive gene that suppresses their inherited tabby pattern giving them a black fur look. When viewed in sunlight traces of their actual colour become visible.

Though black cats can be either male or female, but black coats are more prevalent in males.
10.Exclusively Black Breed.
Listed under Cat Fancier’s Association - The Bombay a type of breed is the only breed which is exclusively black. According to the data more than 22 breeds of cats have solid black colour.
11.The Sailor’s Best Friend.
Though in many cultures, cats are considered inauspicious and there are superstitions surrounding its crossing your path. In many cultures like in Japan and Germany it is considered auspicious. They are also considered to be a Sailor’s best friend.
