Why Is My Dog Vomiting?

Dogs have a digestive system that is totally different compared to humans. The food that is good for humans need not be necessarily good for your pooch.

Certain types of food affect your pooch’s gastric tract leading to vomiting. It is important to know the difference between vomiting and regurgitation. The latter happens when undigested foods gets raised without abdominal effort. This is related to esophageal issues.

Dogs throw up occasional due to unwanted food particle getting stuck in digestive tract or due to gastric irritations. It can also be because of in response to colonic stimulus. The issue rises and becomes serious, if the problem persists for a prolonged period. Then it can be due to cancer.

  • If your dog has eaten up grasses while you were strolling around, that can trigger vomiting.
  • Dog vomiting are usually preceded by a dog drooling, licking their lips, and swallowing excessively.
  • Dogs usually vomit when their stomach is empty or some unwanted particle gets clogged into their stomach. Persistent vomiting later triggers to nausea and gastric inflammations.
  • Other general reason can be formation of ulcers or infections due to some drug reaction that will lead t vomiting.

if your dog is throwing up continuously, it is recommended to provide it ice cubes to lick occasionally and provide them with tablespoon of water to drink in every 30 minutes. This will help keep its mouth moist and reduce any inflammation inside the stomach.

Another solution is to reintroduce bland food between 12 and 24 hours after the initial vomiting incident. A mixture of rice and chicken is best (one part lean meat to five parts starch is ideal), but do not overdo it. Two to three teaspoons is enough to test if the dog is able to partake of the food.

If your dog continues to vomit even after inducing the above methods, consult your veterinarian on immediate basis.
