Why Is My Dog Itching And Scratching ?

 

Dogs are habituated with itching and scratching. Normally will any day go away without finding a dog that isn’t busy scratching itself.

Itching can have a number of reasons. Most common of all is dry skin.  If your dog is suffering from dry skin, it can lead to itching sensation to its skin. If your dog’s skin is infected with ticks and mites it can further worsen its problem.

There are other reasons that can cause itching on your pooch.

  • Dogs skin are extremely sensitive. They are not habituated to too much of chemicals. Extensive use of shampoo can lead to drying of its skin. Dry skin can thus cause more itch and irritation to your dog.
  • Dogs in excitement wander into different places. This can cause their skin get infected with fleas and mite. These in bargain feeding on their skin cause extensive itching and burns. The skin may turn reddish making the dog go crazy with itch.
  • Allergens and polyps in the environment will again lead to drying of dog’s skin.
  • In order to prevent your dog from itching and dry skin, ensure that the surroundings are kept clean. Unclean environment will lead to more spreading of mites and fleas.
  • If your dog’s skin is generally dry, take it for regular grooming to your vet.
  • Certain foods main even cause itching. Feed your dog with nutrients rich diet. Fish oil is an excellent supplement for your dog skin. Adding olive oil to your dog’s food as supplement will also help to keep its skin healthy.
  • If your dog’s itching is extensive, wash its skin with vinegar and water. Washing the affected area with Epsom Salt can give it relief for a while.
  • If your dog’s skin turns dry because of shampoo, using oatmeal shampoo will bring good results.

If your dog’s itching persists and is causing rash and reddish patches on its skin, consult your veterinarian.
