Understand What Your Feline's Body Language States.

Cats are known to be mysterious. Unlike dogs who communicate through their body language, which is often easy to read and understand, it's equally difficult to understand and read a feline’s body language. Cats usually communicate and express themselves vocally, primarily through their face, tail and body.

Want to know what your cat is thinking, just pay a close look to its eyes, ears and expressions. How it has positioned its tail, body and you can study your cat much clearly. If you have a cat at your place and you are unable to understand its language, here we have enlisted behaviors which can simplify your mess.

1.Eyes.

Eyes are doorway to the soul. Hardly can anything escape from the eyes. At the same time, they can also fool you very well if you are a novice in reading them. Cats though mysterious speak a lot through their eyes.

  • If your cat is staring without blinking, it's an attempt to project dominance.
  • Wide open eyes are sign of trust.
  • A slit-eyed expressions means aggression or fear. Beware when teasing or annoying it, or else you may end up getting its handful of paw.
  • If your cat gives you a sleepy-eyed look, which appears to as blinking looking at you, it is a sign of affection.
  • A slow blink from your cat means it truly loves you.
  • Beware when staring directly at your cat’s eyes. Unlike humans, a direct stare into the eyes for a prolonged time may instill your cat to attack you.

2.Ears.

Just like speaking through eyes, your cat may also communicate a lot through its ears.

  • A properly relaxed and happy cat will have its ears pointing slightly to the side and slightly forward. It's totally fine to approach your cat then without any fear of getting caught by its paws.
  • It its ears are pointing straight up, means something has caught its attention. Maybe it has laid its eye on cheese or a mouse for its feast.
  • Twitching ears indicate fear or nervousness.
  • And now, how to know when you need to be aware of falling prey to your cat’s anger is as its ears starts moving backward.
  • Backward moving ear is clear indication of building aggression and anger inside your cat. If your cat shows this signal while communicating with it, better to step back from whatever you were doing.
  • And if the ears are totally flattened behind, better run away as your cat is totally caught into aggression mode.

3.Tail

Similar to canines, felines also communicate a lot through its tail. A lot can be understood about your cat through its tail’s position.

  • If your cat is relaxed and happy, it will hold its tail straight up into the air.
  • If it quivers, it's indicating, it's happy to see you.
  • If your cat’s tail is still up the air but with a slight curve, it indicates your cat is happy seeing you, yet slightly unsure.
  • A tail that is extended back is a friendly sign. It is often called as “neutral gear”, meaning, it is neither frightened or aggressive.
  • If your cat’s tail is curved around its legs, it signifies it is alert and interested.
  • If your cat’s tail starts to move downwards it indicates start of aggression.
  • A slight curve on its tail, which goes down means it is slightly aggressive and indicates its defensive stance.
  • A puffed up tail signifies aggression or else fear.
  • It is a signal to approach with caution, when your cat’s tail turns swishy indicating anger, excitement and irritation.
