Acorn Woodpecker also is known as Melanerpes formicivorus, originating from California. They grow up to a size of 8.3 inches and weighs 85 g approximately. They are Omnivorous in nature and their diet comprises of eggs, seeds, fruits and lizards. They are known to live up to 17.2 years. They are found to occur in typical black and white color and has a distinctive red cap over its head with a sharp long beak.
